General Information and FAQS
Pet Boarding FAQs
Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions on boarding/daycare pets.
How early should I book my reservation?
Cherry Brook Kennels books up early, especially for summer, holidays, and weekends. Make sure you book a reservation as soon as you think you need one, because it is better to have one in place and not need it later, than to need a reservation and not be able to book it at all. However, if you call and we do not have space available, we will recommend placing you on a wait list. As soon as another guest cancels the CBK staff goes immediately to the wait list.
What if my pet has never boarded before?
Although many pets adapt to the CBK camp environment without a problem, some may need to gradually experience the boarding environment prior to an actual stay. Pets can get nervous when they are away from home and are around new people and other pets. Dogs and cats are creatures of habit, and boarding should be introduced as an exciting and enjoyable activity. Cherry Brook Kennels recommends a daycare session for pets who:
-
have never boarded before
-
are older
-
were recently adopted
-
have special needs
-
recently moved to the area
Daycare allows a pet to spend a day with us, and get used to the CBK staff, sounds, smells, sites, and — most importantly — to see that you will be back to get them. Then, when it's time to board, your pet will be excited, confident, and relaxed!
What do I need to bring with my pet?
All you need to bring is a collar and leash, or carrier, and their food pre-packaged in zip lock bags (one for each meal). Cherry Brook Kennels will provide comfortable fresh bedding, off the floor Kuranda beds, water and food dishes. All bedding, rooms, and dishes are cleaned daily. We recommend that you bring your pet's food from home to ensure the best possible experience. With the environment change, keeping the same food is a lot easier on your pet's digestive system.
We ask that the items that you bring be considered safe and have your name written on them. We can also write your name on then if you prefer.
The only other items that may be required are rabies/distemper vaccination certificates, doctor's notes, or prescribed medications including dosages and times given. Please have your vet fax updated vaccines to 860-795-2011 or email to cherrybrookkennels@gmail.com
What if my pet gets sick while in your care?
If a pet becomes sick during its stay at CBK, the staff is trained to assess the pet's condition. If the staff deems the pet's medical condition as urgent, a staff member will immediately seek veterinary assistance and contact the pet owner. If medical concerns are less serious, but should be addressed, a staff member will first contact the pet owner for an opinion of the situation, as well as for prior approval of any medical actions recommended by CBK.
One of the advantages of CBK, is that our guests are only a 5 minute drive from Veterinary Emergency Center of Canton, CT. They are staffed 24/7 and include a state of the art facility and board certified physicians. CBK staff will accompany your pet and stay with them while they're being seen by the staff of Veterinary Emergency Center of Canton, CT

What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 72 hours cancellation notice for any pets scheduled to board over the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Memorial Day, and Fourth of July. We also require a 50% deposit for all holiday/peak season stays, which will be applied to the client's file for that stay. If a client cancels at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled check in day of their holiday stay, a refund will be issued in the form of the original payment. Any owners who do not give Cherry Brook Kennels 72 hours notice of cancellation will not receive a refund from their holiday/peak season deposit or as a credit for future stays. If you need to cancel at any other time of the year, we do require 48 hours notice and same refund policy applies. For more information, please see call us with any questions.
If my pet requires medication, will you administer it?
Yes, we can administer medications including eye ointments, ear medications, liquids, pills and insulin injections for an additional fee.
